Key aspects will remain the same: great live music, 250+ beers offered, seminar tent, an early VIP session and the Belgian Beer Tent. However, changes will be made for this year’s event addressing some of the shortcomings of last year—most notably running out of beer too early! We are still in the early stages of planning, but here are some of the changes being implemented which we feel will improve the quality of the event.
Admission to the event will remain the same--$30 in advance, $35 at the door, $10 extra for the VIP session (starts at noon) and the Belgian tent. Attendance will be again limited to 2,000 people. More tents and tasting tables will be added to spread out the crowd.
The event will be refocused back to a true tasting event for the majority of the program, with the use of tickets/coupons for tasting pours. With your admission you will receive 24 tickets enabling you to 24 tasting samples (2-3 oz. pours) with additional tickets provided for the VIP tasting and/or Belgian beer tent. The VIP pass (unique $40 ticket, limited to 750 attendees) entitles holders to a one hour pre-event tasting as well as the main event from 1 – 5 p.m. The VIP session will be enhanced to include some very limited, unique beers from the participating breweries which will probably not be available by the time the main session starts at 1 p.m. Additional tasting tickets/coupons, for additional pours, will be available for purchase at the event for a reasonable 50 cents per ticket/pour.
Event logo tasting glasses will also be available for purchase at a nominal amount (the Waterbury Health Department forbids giving them out) and plastic tasting cups will again be provided. Brewery representatives will be instructed not to pour samples into anything other than the designated tasting glasses or cups so please don’t bring your own glassware to the event (glassware check-in at the front gate will be provided if you do). Breweries and Brewpubs will still be allowed to sell logo pint glasses, T-shirts, etc. and we expect to have event “swag bags” available at a nominal cost to store and carry any purchases.
After 3:30 p.m. the event will be reoriented to accommodate more of a “social” tasting which many attendees are looking for based upon last year’s event feedback. We will purchase beer from the microbreweries for this portion of the program, with pouring in a large, centralized tent in addition to the mircrobrewery and Belgian tents which will continue until they run out of beer.
This event benefits Main Street Waterbury and has become a major fund raiser for them. The downtown Waterbury businesses look forward each year to the post event programming and there will be more of this than ever before to make your day and evening in Waterbury more enjoyable. The participating breweries also look forward to this event as long as it remains a true tasting event which is our main goal. We believe the above proposed changes and others under review will help us achieve our desired goals. More details will be made available on the web site (BrassCityBrewfest.com) as we work on specifics in the coming months. Tickets will go on sale around July 1st at designated outlets in the Greater Waterbury area, Mountview Plaza Wines & Liquors in Naugatuck and on line at www.brasscitybrewfest.com.
