I'm starting to get a little bored of Crazy Bruce's bottle selection, and may have to start traveling a bit further to satisfy my new brew Thursday obsession. So where do I go? Who has the best craft beer selection in CT? Where's your go-to package store and Why? Anyone know of anywhere to fill growlers other than the breweries?
You guys have given a lot of great suggestions! Here's a map and list of what's been said so far.
Hands down, there is none better then Cheshire Wine & Spirits. I may be biased because they sponsor our Beer Tasting Event, but the reason we have this event and it is so successful is because of them.
Jim Sibley, the man in charge of the beer section I have ever met. Whether you're a novice or experienced microbrew drinker, Jim will teach you something you never knew. You want hoppy? You want an IPA? You want a nice summer ale? No matter what it is, he will make a suggestion and he will tell you how it tastes because he tried it. He is very well connected with many of the breweries around the state and Northeast, as well as the brew pubs.
Believe me, it is worth the trip to Cheshire to meet and talk with Jim!
+1 for Cheshire Wine and Spirits. Great find!
Great suggestion Don, I will make a trip to check this out.
Ives Road Wine and Spirits in Wallingford has a well stocked craft beer selection. Not huge, but thoughtfully selected.
Sonoma Wine and Spirits in Glastonbury, very Impressive selection, Harvest in West Hartford too.
99 Bottles in Norwalk, CT! Right accross the bridge from us, fantastic selection
Southington Wine and Spirit is very good as someone else mentioned.
A new place right down the road from them opened up within the last 6 months, Worldwide Wine & Spirits. Excellent selection and you can order and pickup from them online. http://www.ctwineandspirit.com/ I haven't tried that yet as I like to go in and browse, but it's useful to see if they have something you're looking for before you get there. They also carry Relic in the small fridge in back. I got the last Falconess there a few weeks ago - delicious. I also got a Harviestoun Ola Dubh 12-year there, which was very good. It was in the whisky/bourbon section, which they also have a decent selection of.
The best craft beer selections I've seen are Manchester Wine and Spirits, Liquor Depot in Simsbury, and Amity Spirits in New Haven. There are a ton of other really good beer stores too with really knowledgable staff. M&R, The Cork in Torrington, Dotcom in West Hartford....I'm missing a bunch, but all of these places deserve shout-outs.
Great selection at Town Line Fine Wine, Spirits and Beer in Stratford. Right next to Big Y. Single Bottles, plenty of Bombers and beer tastings on Thursdays.
Hey all, I am the new (within the last year) beer manager at Ledgebrook Spirits in Winsted. I wanted to encourage people in my corner of the state to come check out our improved craft selection. Over the last year I have made significant improvements and have taken much pride in our new selection. Please come check it out for yourself and let me know what you think.
