So, I'm getting ready to brew a porter and I thought I'd like to add maple syrup to the recipe. Does anybody know how much I should add to a 5 gallon recipe. Or, has anybody tried a spice called…Continue

"Never made a beer with maple syrup but i have made mead and cider and have found the flavor is hard to keep through fermentation. Maybe make a dry beer and add it after to keep the maple flavor?"

The new Hanafin's Irish Pub

I stopped into the new Hanafin's Irish Pub in Glastonbury Saturday evening. It was my first time there. The pub has nice atmosphere and  decent beer selection. The food was good too (I had the corned beef reuben). See More

"Come to think of it, the sponsors of these events probably do business with distributors, not the actual breweries themselves. Maybe I'll fire off some e-mails to some of our local breweries and see what the response is."

So, last week I received an e-mail flyer for an evening of blues music and refreshment at Bushnell Park. It was last Friday i believe. The evening featured 4 or 5 Blues arists, and I think some, if not all, were local musicians. i also noticed the evening was sponsored by Budweiser and Red Hook. I think if someone wants to promote an event with local artists it would be beneficial to invite local breweries as sponsors.

Hatch Plug Ale

Posted on February 15, 2011 at 7:43am 0 Comments

I just tried Hatch Plug Ale from Connecticut's newest Cavalry Brewing Co. this past weekend. I found it to be a welcome change from all of the super-hopped ales on the shelves now. Hatch Plug is an unfiltered, mildly hopped ale that puts the emphasis on its malt aroma and flavor. I also want to mention how impressed I was by the generous layer of thick, white foam this beer creates. My pint glass kept a steady stream of tiny bubbles rising to the top and the head never disappated. It reminds…
