Just in time for late fall/early winter, I have tasting notes on three big (ish) beers from Smuttynose Brewing Company that are packed with taste, yet drink nice and smooth.
I had these three on draught at Eli Cannon's in Middletown during their Smuttynose Brewing Co. night last Tuesday. The choice was rather daunting, they had the following…

Re-posted from my blog: Malted Musings.
Eli Cannon's Tap Room yearly Christmas tree lighting ended up being bigger, better, and brighter than ever this year. New bar manager JD Crandall added more lights and more trees to the display and lit up the far North end of Middletown with a blast of holiday cheer. Going from one tree…Continue

Today I'm going to try something new, so I ask that you bear with me. Obviously, I love beer. And I've made it known how much I love music. But there is another thing I love a lot...

Tis the season...for beer! Forget about the eggnog, I am looking forward to unique beers and beer related gifts that give me even more reason to celebrate. So Santa, if you are listening, here are a few things at the top of my Christmas list to make it even more merry!
Beer Brewing Kits
In my continuing efforts to get all of you out and about, and enjoying great beer and fun, I've touched base with Eli Cannon's Tap Room (in Middletown CT) to see what this great beer bar has in the cards for the winter season. As expected- they did not disappoint me; and have a few great events coming up that every beer lover should make an effort to attend.

Bikes and Beers, an event quickly gaining popularity in Connecticut, has been one of the many great successes of the Connecticut Beer Trail in 2012. And so, to close out the year on Bikes and Beers, this last ride had to be big, loud, and tons of fun. By partnering with the Devil's Gear in New Haven, CT Beer Trail…Continue

When hubby and I received an invitation to attend a local craft beer tasting it wasn't an invitation I could easily ignore. An opportunity to sample a numbered and varied selection of craft beers was a mouthwatering prospect.
The invitation came from Craft Brew Guy who is attempting to incite (or inspire) a revolution. A craft…Continue

So as the days start fading and we head towards Thanksgiving day, I start looking for a darker more complex beer. Next on my docket will be a nice Robust Porter. Let's take a look at the style from the BJCP guidelines as to what we are trying to get to for the right feel:
Aroma: Roasty aroma (often with a lightly burnt, black malt character) should be noticeable and may be moderately strong. Optionally may also show some additional malt character in support (grainy, bready,…Continue

8 months ago we had 39 home brew entries... Last Thursday, we finally settled the score.
A couple of weeks ago, I had made my first craftbeer purchase since moving to Baltimore. It was an exciting moment! A new city, with new beer availability, in a new store. Wandering the aisles, I saw a small end display of a brewery I have been chomping at the bit to try, Brooklyn own, Sixpoint.

The temperature is dropping (well kinda), the leaves are falling, and people are fear-mongering about a monster snow storm on the way. The temptation now is to pack it in: stock up on beer and warm clothes and hibernate for the upcoming winter; but I say there's fun left to be had! Taking a look ahead I've picked out three events that will warm your chill-bitten bones, and help you see that winter may not be that bad after all.
There are two Halloween events that I want to…
