Hey all. The beer is NOT brewed by HARPOON. The beer is BUD AMERICAN ALE.

Fishy, indeed.  There is astoundingly little information on Whaler Ale on the web.  There are nebulous ties to both Anheuser-Busch (the best being the below Examiner article) and Harpoon.  However, Harpoon hasn't responded to an inquiry sent two weeks ago.  Anheuser-Busch only replied to ask where I had seen Whaler Ale and how I had heard of it.  I provided that information a week ago and am still waiting to hear back from them.  This is taking a puzzlingly long time.  Hooker confirmed right away that the beer is definitely not theirs.  The mystery lives on.

Found an article online that connecting and confirmed the Whaler Ale to Bud American Ale.  After posting the article on Facebook, the article suddenly became unavailable.  Hmmm...

 

Honestly, it was a good beer, but why is the brewery that makes this so sketchy.  Bartender at Keys to the City said Hooker, article send Bud, and Mike in this thread says Harpoon.  Just sounds all kinda fishy to me.

Weird. I was just thinking how much some CT Brewery could make if they got in cahoots with The Whalers and made a balanced, inexpensive beer. If it was brewed and bottled in CT and was sponsored by The Whale, I would have to keep a cycling stock of it in my fridge.

Whaler Ale isn't Bud American Ale. It's made by Harpoon.

Bryon, it's actually a balanced and somewhat respectable amber-colored ale for something that is mass produced.  After all, it was their big effort to make a "distinctly American" ale after they just sold out to InBev.

Thanks, I figured it was an Anheuser-Busch product.  They were charging $10 per glass at the Whale Bowl last night.  The power of marketing...

I believe its was contracted out to anheuser-busch from what I recall when it was first released for the CT whale debut.
