3/24/2011 – CT BEER TRAIL, Conn. – Twelve Connecticut craft beers were rated among the best in all of New England this week by fans across the nation through the compilation of millions of independent reviews on the highly respected online community at BeerAdvocate.com.
“Lists are generated using a Bayesian estimate that pulls data from millions of user reviews (not hand-picked) and normalizes scores based on the number of reviews for each beer,” explains the Beer Advocate web site.
However they add up their numbers, getting listed as one of the best in your region is something to be proud of. The twelve local beers of note are the creations of five of Connecticut’s craft beer producers, including Thomas Hooker Brewing Co,, New England Brewing Co., The Cambridge House Brew Pub, Willimantic Brewing Co., and Brü Rm. at BAR.
Thomas Hooker’s Liberator Doppelbock and New England Brewing’s Imperial Stout Trooper were both listed in the top ten for New England.
“I can't believe a beer this good is brewed so close to me,” wrote Tom DeCicco, a local beer fan and online reviewer who contributed to Imperial Stout Trooper’s high score. “You deserve serious kudos for creating this fabulous stout!”
New England had the best overall showing with a total of four top rated beers; Thomas Hooker was close behind with three. But it wasn’t just the state’s breweries that were featured on the top 100 list.
Three of the state’s celebrated brew pubs, including Willimantic Brewing Co., Cambridge House Brew Pub, and Brü Rm. at BAR, rounded out Connecticut’s showing on the list of top brews with a total of five beers. Notable brew pub beers included Cambridge House’s Abijah Rowe IPA at number 16, and Willimantic Brewing’s Pushing The Envelope IPA at number 42.
“We faced some serious competition; New England has some great beer,” said Scott Riley, the owner of Cambridge House Brew Pub in East Granby, CT. “But we're very proud of our beer and thrilled to have been recognized by our fans on a regional level.”
As we approach the weekend why not consider visiting one of the state’s breweries or brew pubs for one of these delicious locally crafted beers fresh from the source? Grab your GPS and hit the CT Beer Trail and experience some of the best beer in the region for yourself!
